Background
My {work} with Food for the Hungry
I’ve been working with Food for the Hungry in various capacities since June 2007. (Intern, Program Rep, Resource Coordinator, Global Information Coordinator, HR Communications, and now Resource Coordinator) Most recently I have been blessed to work on the Communications team. Our team helps build communications capacity with our staff around the world, builds up resources to help us better tell FH’s story, and occasionally sends out resource teams to the field. We strive to create an easy flow of sharing so that stories from around the global organization can be passed to you!
I started this blog to take me family, friends, and supports on a journey with me in 2011 when I took a three month project in Asia. Now – I’m using it to continue to keep my circle of friends up to date on my travels and adventures but more importantly to educate on the work of FH and the incredible people involved in this transformational journey to end poverty.
{Disclaimer}
I hope my posts always inform. Thought I am an employee of FH – my blog posts are just that -mine…. My thoughts and opinions are not necessarily representative of FH as an organization. This blog will often include my processing of the things felt and witnesses in the area’s were FH works and will sometimes be raw. Forgive me if I offend and please do not hold FH responsible for my brokenness.
A little about {me}…
My home base is Phoenix, Arizona – I’ve been there for just over three years now. I moved straight out of college (George Fox University represent!) to intern for FH. Moving from the lush but very raining climate in Oregon where I grew up to AZ has been a massive shift. But after some time… I’m starting to love the desert I call home.
I have been playing with photography for years. It seems like the more I learn the more I realize that there IS to learn! It’s an endless journey and I look forward to every lesson. I most recently had the opportunity to attend a seminar from National Geographic Travel Magazine photographer Bob Krist (bobkrist.com) – INCREDIBLE! I love learning from other photographers, and seeing the many many ways you can capture a single story in photographs. If you want to see some of my work unrelated to this trip go to cnorvellephotography.com.
Moving to a new city presented a challenge – finding a community to plug into. I finally found my home at New City Church (ironic). This church has been an incredible support and seeks to minister to young people in the city of Phoenix. I had my first ever gallery showing as part of their grand opening at the New City Studio Space. If you are in Phoenix – check out their First Friday show, you will love it.
And a little about my {family}…
The Norvelle’s all seem to be very inventive … so check out their stuff!

I’m so excited for your upcoming journey! I can’t wait to see how God works through you and in you over the next three months!
ALWAYS here for you, friend and will be praying for your adventure.
Thanks Kristine!! We will most def have skype dates
Your prayers and support are highly appreciated!
Oh love your back story and detailing what you do at FH. Thanks for the link love! : )
Love ya
This is really cool, I’ve always had an admiration for those who work in organizations such as FH. I have a little passion for joining the peace corps and going to SE Africa one day.
Congrats on the photography! I am a young photographer in-training myself and really hope to have that in my life on the side when I get out of college
Thats awesome! Thanks Julia, where are you in school at?
Hofstra University, it’s in Long Island, NY. Yup… east coast gal
God never ceases to bless His children. Having you placed on our Learning and Staff Development team is our gain. I look forward to working with you when you return to Phoenix.
